Emergencies

Emergencies happen, and they rarely occur at a convenient time. If you are reading this page, you may be looking for help with your dental emergency. At Chappell Family Dentistry, we are ready to provide the services you need to relieve your discomfort and protect your oral health.

Dental Trauma

If you have had an accident, particularly one involving your mouth, you may also have damage to other parts of your head. As a dental office, we aren’t qualified to diagnose concussions or treat areas other than the mouth. Go to the emergency room and make sure that your problems are limited to your teeth before coming to see us.

Knocked-Out Tooth

If you have a tooth that has been knocked out and is whole, it needs to be put back into the socket as soon as possible. Don’t clean the tooth or rinse it off with water. Place the tooth in milk and get to the dentist immediately. If milk isn’t available a tooth can also be placed between your lip and other teeth so that your saliva keeps it hydrated.

You have hours to get the tooth back into place. If you wait until the next day the tooth will not be able to be reimplanted.

Broken Tooth

If your tooth is broken, but most of it remains, save whatever fragments you may have and call us so that we can help you as soon as possible. Sometimes we can bond or cement the broken piece back into place.

After any trauma involving teeth, we will need to follow up to ensure that the nerve inside the tooth has returned back to normal and that you are healing properly.

Toothache

If you have a toothache or even just sensitivity to a tooth, call to make an appointment. We will do our best to get you in immediately. Most of the time we can get you in the same day you call.

Swelling

Swelling can indicate a dental infection. If you notice swelling, call to get in as soon as possible. Swelling can worsen quickly and can even become life-threatening. If possible, we may need to drain the swelling immediately and prescribe antibiotics.

If your swelling is visible without even opening your mouth you should go to the emergency room because the infection needs to be treated in the hospital.
